Application of Biometrical Genetics in Mulberry Silkworm Breeding: A Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
The silkworm, Bombyx mori is a lepidopteron insect by virtue of its economic importance for over a century has been used in many genetical experiments in several countries, especially China, India, Japan, Soviet Russia, Korea and many Southeast Asian and European countries. Many of the economic traits of this insect are known to be controlled by large number of polygenes. The silkworm varieties include univoltines, bivoltine and polyvoltines races. These races are utilized by silkworm geneticists to programme crossing and selection experiments. Since, silkworm races are open genetic system crossing and hybridization experiment through out the world resulted in the evolution of new breeds and hybrids. However, the gene expression in Bombyx mori is known to be greatly influenced by environmental factors because of long course of domestication. It is important that the estimates of genetic variability in the breeding materials and the magnitude of genetic effects governing the yield and other economically important attributes and unbiased estimates of other genetic parameters are highly useful for a successful breeding programme. Thus understanding of genetic components through biometrical genetics is very necessary for breeders.

Assessing Potential of Iranian Chicory Genotypes for Industrial Application
Chicory (Cichoriumintybus L.) is an important industrial crop which is used for inulin production. Inulin is widely applied as food ingredient due to its health promoting properties. For the first time, attempts were made to investigate thirteen endemic chicory genotypes including three pumilum populations, along with five root chicory cultivars, four witloof chicory varieties and a crispum end...
متن کاملBiochemical and bioassay studies on the influence of different organic manures on the growth of Mulberry Variety V1 and silkworm, Bombyx mori Linn.
The genetic variation and diversity among fifty-eight polyvoltine silkworm genotypes was estimated by using ten economic traits. The results revealed that the single shell weight showed higher genetic variation such as PCV% (17.20%), GCV% (12.93%), and heritability (56.5%) followed by single cocoon weight, shell ratio and matured larval weight. The D2 (Mahalonobis? distance) statistics reveal...
متن کاملImprovement of abiotic stress adaptive traits in mulberry (Morus spp.): an update on biotechnological interventions
Mulberry (Morus spp.), being an economically important tree, is cultivated in China, India, Thailand, Brazil, Uzbekistan and other Countries across the globe, for its leaves to feed monophagous mulberry silkworm (Bombyx mori). The sustainability of silk industry is directly correlated with the production and continuous supply of high-quality mulberry leaves. In India, it is cultivated on large ...

Recently genetic studies have been revolutionized by next generation sequencing (NGS) technology, and it is expected that the use of this technology will largely eliminate defects in the methods of association studies. The NGS technology is becoming the premier tool in genetics. However, at the moment the use of this method is limited especially in the livestock due to high cost and computation...
متن کاملEffects of Thrips (Pseudodendrothrips mori Niwa) Infested Mulberry Leaves on Silkworm Growth and Commercial Cocoon Parameters
In mulberry orchards in northern part of Iran, thrips is a dominant pest and causing a lot of damage to the mulberry. The effect of pest on bio-chemical parameters of mulberry leaf of two varieties viz. Kenmochi and Ichenoise and also the effect of feeding of infested leaves on rearing performances have been studied. For the study, six plots of 200 m2 area of both the varieties were selected an...
